BMI Healthcare welcomes cosmetic surgery review

BMI Healthcare has reacted positively to the launch of a new government review of the UK cosmetic surgery industry - a move which the company believes will help improve the quality of care for patients.
The private healthcare provider has welcomed the Department of Health's planned review of the rules and regulations governing the sector, with a statement from the company expressing concern that this type of surgery has become trivialised by the media and certain areas of the medical sector.
It stated that the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery should not be taken lightly, with the provision of essential relevant information for patients a key priority.
The government review was launched earlier this week and will be spearheaded by Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, who has invited members of the public to give their views on cosmetic surgery and share their experiences.
It comes partially in response to the recent national safety scandal surrounding faulty PiP breast implants.
"Providers have a responsibility to inform patients about the risks involved in surgery and how to choose an appropriate surgeon, including their qualifications, aftercare and hospital facilities," said BMI Healthcare.
