Boston Scientific receives CE Mark for Ingenio pacemakers
Boston Scientific has received CE Mark approval for its Ingenio family of pacemakers, ahead of the product line's European launch.
The Ingenio and Advantio pacemakers have been approved for use among patients in need of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, allowing the first European implants to begin taking place in several countries, including the UK.
Ingenio pacemakers come equipped with Image Ready technology that means MRI scans will not cause magnetic interference with their functionality, nor any overheating of the Fineline II leads.
They also incorporate RightRate pacing technology to combat chronotropic incompetence, a form of bradycardia in which the heart is unable to regulate its rate appropriately in response to physical activity.
Michael Onuscheck, senior vice-president and president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Boston Scientific, said: "This progression in the use of the Ingenio family of pacemakers represents another step in our commitment to expanding our pacing capabilities and improving the lives of patients."
According to Boston Scientific's most recent financial report, the company generated sales of $1.83 billion (1.18 million pounds) in the second quarter of 2012.
