Hospira has named Dr Dennis Fenton to its board of directors, expanding the body's total membership to 11.
Dr Fenton is a recognised manufacturing and biologics expert with more than 30 years of healthcare industry experience, spending around 25 years employed by fellow pharmaceutical company Amgen.
He was one of the firm's longest-tenured employees and acted as executive vice-president of operations until his retirement in 2008, while he also served as a senior research scientist at Pfizer prior to this.
Hospira stated that he has been appointed based on his commitment to results-oriented leadership and various contributions to biological manufacturing and operations quality.
F Michael Ball, chief executive officer of Hospira, said: "Dennis brings unparalleled experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology space, with differentiated expertise that spans manufacturing and quality overall, and biologics in particular."
This comes after the firm appointed John Elliot as its new senior vice-president for operations earlier this year.
