Alcon announces takeover of Endure Medical Systems
31 July 2012 15:29 in Medical Company Restructures
Alcon has confirmed that it will be purchasing Endure Medical Systems, a specialist US surgical microscope manufacturer based in Georgia.
The newly acquired company designs, develops and manufactures innovative products and accessories specific to surgical microscopy, including the successful LuxOR product portfolio.
Its devices incorporate ILLUMIN-i technology, which delivers a consistently stable, high-quality red reflex that is six times larger than traditional microscopes, thus helping to redefine the visual area.
Following the takeover, Alcon will immediately begin marketing the LuxOR microscopes in the US, before expanding their availability in a phased worldwide rollout during 2013.
Stuart Raetzman, head of global commercial strategy at Alcon, said: "This acquisition is part of Alcon's strategy to deliver innovative technologies in eye care, to help improve ophthalmic surgery for both surgeons and patients."
A wholly-owned Novartis subsidiary since 2010, Alcon generated $2.6 billion (1.66 billion pounds) in sales during the second quarter of 2012, up by one percent year on year.
