BD has named Rebecca Rimel as the newest member of its board of directors, a move that will bring extensive public policy expertise and philanthropic leadership to the company.
Ms Rimel is the president and chief executive officer of the Pew Charitable Trusts, a role she has occupied since 1994, while prior to this she served in various positions at investment and wealth management firm the Glenmede Trust Company.
She also has a strong background in healthcare, having acted as head nurse at the emergency department at the University of Virginia Hospital, as well as occupying the roles of coordinator of medical outpatient facilities, and assistant professor and instructor in neurosurgery.
Vincent Forlenza, BD's chairman, chief executive officer and president, said: "I am confident that she will provide invaluable insight and perspective as we continue to execute our strategy of accelerating growth through innovation, complemented by operational excellence."
Earlier this month, the company announced the acquisition of Safety Syringes, a manufacturer of passive needle shields and guards for prefilled syringes.
