16 July 2012 14:56 in Medical Company Restructures
BD has announced the acquisition of Safety Syringes, a California-based business specialising in the development of anti-needlestick devices for prefilled syringes.
The deal is expected to close by the end of the 2012 fiscal year and will allow BD to offer a comprehensive range of passive safety offerings to any prefillable syringe customer.
Safety Syringes is recognised as the category leader for passive needle shields and guards for prefilled syringes, with its technology supporting more than 20 drugs on the market.
Its UltraSafe Passive products utilise a safety guard that automatically locks into place, delivering easy-to-use injury protection and safety in drug delivery applications.
William Kozy, BD's executive vice-president, said: "This pending acquisition is well aligned to BD's strategy of applying technology and clinical knowledge to make healthcare more effective, efficient and safe."
Last week, the company announced that its BD Max MRSA molecular testing system has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for sale in the US.
