Orthofix and Brainlab announce technology integration partnership

Orthofix has allied with Brainlab on a new partnership involving the integration and co-marketing of their respective product technologies.
The deal will see Orthofix's Phoenix MIS and Firebird Pedicle Screw Systems incorporated into the latest generation of Brainlab spinal navigation devices.
By bringing these products together, the manufacturers aim to aid preoperative planning and real-time positioning of spinal fixation devices in technically-challenging spinal fusion procedures.
The alliance was recently unveiled at the 2012 SpineWeek Meeting in The Netherlands and is considered strategically important by both organisations.
Robert Vaters, president and chief executive officer of Orthofix, said: "Our collaboration with Brainlab is another step in promoting new technologies for procedures such as minimally invasive and spinal deformity surgery."
Earlier this year, Orthofix announced the sale of its sports medicine business unit to Water Street Healthcare Partners, thus allowing it to focus on its core operational areas of repair hardware, and regenerative biologics and stimulation solutions.
