UCB has been presented with the prestigious company of the year title at the 11th annual European Mediscience Awards, which were recently handed out at a London ceremony.
The firm received the accolade in recognition of its status as a well-managed, soundly-financed organisation with an upward growth trajectory and a solid strategy for delivering its financial and social objectives.
An expert judging panel praised UCB for its efforts to transform itself into a biopharmaceutical industry leader over the past eight years through a programme of acquisitions and divestures, strong research efforts and "expertly-handled" patent expiries.
Roch Doliveux, chief executive officer of UCB, said the company's efforts are ultimately designed to benefit patients affected by central nervous system and immune system diseases.
He added: "This award is recognition of the efforts and work of all UCB colleagues and we are very thankful for this."
Earlier this month, the company announced an expanded collaboration with Harvard University that will aim to develop new neurodegenerative disease therapies.
