The British Dental Association (BDA) has announced that general dental practitioner Dr Martin Fallowfield has been elected as the chair of its new principal executive committee.
Dr Fallowfield, a long-serving member of the BDA's current executive board, will be tasked with maintaining the integrity of the organisation, developing its networks and ensuring it is represented in political, public and policy forums.
The new committee formally assumes its responsibilities on July 1st 2012 and will be populated by industry experts from around the country, with a by-election to be conducted to elect a representative for north-west England.
Dr Fallowfield said he will ensure the BDA will speak out "forcefully" on behalf of the profession in order to ensure the provision of high-quality care.
He added: "This is a pivotal time for the BDA and the profession it represents. There are many challenges to be confronted and we must be flexible as we seek to deal with them."
Last month, the BDA announced the election of Deborah White as the new chair of its central committee for dental academic staff.
