Lilly has announced that its chairman, president and chief executive officer (CEO) Dr John Lechleiter has been presented with an award by humanitarian group Project Hope.
The executive has earned the organisation's inaugural global health partner award, recognising both his personal leadership and the value of the longstanding alliance between Lilly and Project Hope.
Since 1959, the bodies have worked together to carry out charitable programmes in nations such as China, Haiti, India, Indonesia and Japan, with Lilly contributing about $80 million (51.03 million pounds) in cash donations and in-kind gifts.
Mr Lechleiter said: "We're humbled by this recognition and inspired to continue our partnership with Project Hope. By working together, we will have even greater impact on communities and people in need."
Earlier this month, the company strengthened its corporate leadership further with the appointment of Dr William Kaelin Jr, a leading US medical expert, as a new member of its board of directors.
