The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has launched a new guide to maternity, paternity and adoption rights aimed at both employers and employees.
Launched following the introduction of new regulations covering this area, the document includes full explanations of the revised rules, as well as quick reference timelines, frequently asked questions and health and safety guidance.
Issues covered by the document include when employees need to tell their bosses that they are pregnant, when maternity pay starts and the exact nature of paternity rights, as well as specific information for locums.
Professor Bill Reilly, BVA past president, said: "Developed with the help of human resources and legal experts, this guidance answers common questions [and] gives a great overview of what should happen when, as well as who has which rights and responsibilities."
Last month, the organisation launched its biggest ever member survey in order to gauge the level of satisfaction BVA members have with the professional body.
