Molnlycke acquires woundEL healing technology
Molnlycke has announced the acquisition of a new wound healing product from Gerromed, which is based on electrical stimulation technology.
Currently marketed under the brand name woundEL, the therapy combines moist wound treatment and application of controlled, low-frequency direct current impulses, for the treatment of acute, sub-acute and chronic wounds.
It consists of a therapy device with dressing electrodes and a dispersing electrode, with the treatment regimen requiring the patient to undergo 30-minute stimulation sessions twice per day.
Following the acquisition, Molnlycke will further develop the product and conduct clinical investigations, with the aim of commercialising the technology.
"Molnlycke Health Care's acquisition will significantly accelerate the company's entry into this novel treatment area for hard-to-heal wounds," said a corporate statement.
This comes after the company purchased the burn and wound care business division of Brennen Medical earlier this year.
