Covidien agrees Oridion Systems takeover

10th April 2012

Covidien has announced the acquisition of Oridion Systems, an Israel-based provider of medical technology with applications in ventilation treatment.

The $300 million (189.41 million pounds) deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2012 and will see the business become part of Covidien's oximetry and monitoring operations within its medical devices segment.

Oridion's product range includes its Microstream capnography monitors and modules and the etCO2 breath sampling lines, which are used to monitor adequacy of ventilation.

Such products can offer an early indication of airway compromise in healthcare settings, thus contributing to higher standards of patient care.

Robert White, president for respiratory and monitoring systems at Covidien, said: "Oridion's products and etCO2 technology are excellent complements to the company's current portfolio of pulse oximeters and monitoring products, enabling us to offer a complete portfolio of solutions to monitor respiratory function for patients."

This follows the company's agreements to purchase Newport Medical Instruments and superDimension last month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801336189-ADNFCR
