Sigma-Aldrich announces Research Organics acquisition

Sigma-Aldrich has announced the acquisition of Research Organics, a leading supplier of high-purity biochemicals for a range of life science applications.
The Cleveland-based business has been in operation since the 1950s and pioneered the creation of zwitterionic biological buffers, as well as helping to develop the HEPES buffer as an industry standard.
Following the takeover, Research Organics will be integrated into Sigma-Aldrich's custom manufacturing and services business unit SAFC.
Sigma-Aldrich believes this deal will allow it to improve its buffer production capacity and expand its portfolio of pharma-grade raw materials, allowing it to provide a greater range of services for the biopharmaceutical and diagnostic markets.
Gilles Cottier, executive vice-president of Sigma-Aldrich and president of SAFC, said: "This acquisition is an outstanding complement to our existing raw materials portfolio and will help us provide more innovative solutions for some of our customers' toughest supply challenges."
This follows the company's acquisition of biopharmaceutical testing services provider BioReliance Holdings earlier this year.
