Medtronic has announced the launch of its innovative new CareLink Pro 3 Therapy Management Software, for use in the monitoring of diabetes therapies.
The new technology represents the first software program to provide advanced decision support for healthcare professionals, allowing data from insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring devices and blood glucose meters to be viewed on a single dashboard.
By presenting this detailed information in an easily digestible manner, consultations can become more efficient, allowing therapy changes to be implemented more easily.
Dr Francine Kaufman, chief medical officer and vice-president for global medical, clinical and health affairs at Medtronic Diabetes, said: "We know diabetes management is complex and that gathering adequate information to make informed treatment decisions can be a challenge for clinicians and patients."
Medtronic also believes the automated decision-making capabilities of the software will advance its plans to create an artificial pancreas.
This follows the publication of positive trial data for the company's MiniMed Paradigm System with Low Glucose Suspend automation last month, which could also be instrumental in the planned device.
