Pfizer concludes biosimilars partnership with Biocon
Pfizer has announced the conclusion of its alliance with Biocon over the development of biosimilar versions of insulin and insulin analogue products.
From March 12th 2012, all rights licensed to Pfizer under the deal have reverted to Biocon, with all Univia and Glarvia insulin products to be commercially available from Biocon only.
The companies have decided that moving forward independently will be the best way for them to achieve their individual priority goals for their respective biosimilars businesses.
Diem Nguyen, general manager for biosimilars at Pfizer, said the company will continue to be active in its own research and business development efforts for diabetes.
He added: "Pfizer continues to be dedicated to developing a broad portfolio of biosimilars medicines, including monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins products, both internally and through collaborations."
This comes after the company announced a new generic medicines joint venture with Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical last month.
