Idexx Laboratories launches phenobarbital blood testing for Catalyst Dx
16 February 2012 00:00 in Animal Health Supplier News
Idexx Laboratories has announced the launch of phenobarbital blood level testing capabilities for its Catalyst Dx chemistry analyser.
To be introduced at the Western Veterinary Conference in Nevada this month, the new test allows clinicians to measure levels of the anticonvulsant drug phenobarbital in less than 15 minutes.
This makes it possible for them to adjust medication dosages for seizure patients in real time, helping them to provide more responsive care for animals, while adding to the comprehensive menu of different tests available for Catalyst Dx.
Results from the new test can be easily interpreted using the Idexx VetLab Station, which helps to further speed up the treatment process.
Michelle Frye, Idexx's medical affairs manager, said: "The clinical significance of this newest innovation is profound, providing effective intervention and efficient therapeutic monitoring for seizuring patients."
Earlier this month, the company announced its financial results for 2011, with annual sales rising by ten percent thanks in part to rising demand for Catalyst Dx.
