Medtronic study shows benefits of AdaptiveStim neurostimulation system
Medtronic has announced data from a new clinical study that shows the benefits offered by its AdaptiveStim with RestoreSensor neurostimulation system.
AdaptiveStim with RestoreSensor was assessed in a study involving almost 80 US-based patients in order to evaluate the advantages offered by its innovative motion-sensing technology.
The device uses position-adaptive stimulation to offer different levels of pain relief depending on body position, remembering the correlation between positioning and stimulation levels while also providing feedback data for clinicians.
It was found in the study that the AdaptiveStim device is able to deliver more effective pain relief and convenience compared to manually adjusted neurostimulation treatment.
Dr David Schultz, founder and medical director of MAPS Pain Clinics and MAPS Applied Research Center in Minneapolis, said: "This study clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of position-adaptive stimulation technology in providing pain relief and convenience to patients suffering from chronic pain, so they can lead more normal lives."
Last month, the company announced plans to sell off its emergency medical response technology business unit Physio-Control, in order to support its future growth.
