Bayer HealthCare commences Contour USB diabetes study

8th December 2011

Bayer HealthCare has commenced a new study that aims to showcase the benefits of its blood glucose monitoring system Contour USB and accompanying software.

The new Congo study will involve 240 patients across six clinical sites and will see one group utilising all features of Contour USB and its robust diabetes software package, while the other will use a standard Contour meter and a paper log book.

It is hoped that the trial will be able to demonstrate Contour USB's ability to help improve glycaemic control among diabetes patients, while reducing the frequency of hypoglycaemic events.

Contour USB offers augmented functions such as the AutoLog blood sugar measurement system, Glucofacts Deluxe integrated data management software and the ability to tack variables such as carbohydrates and insulin units.

Professor Peter Schwarz at the University of Dresden said: "When used as an integral part of a comprehensive disease management program, these data management systems can assist persons with diabetes to make better decisions."

Last month, the company presented an award to Helen Chenoweth of the Royal Cornwall Hospital, recognising her research in the field of diabetes care.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801233709-ADNFCR
