GE Healthcare to launch new interventional X-ray system

GE Healthcare has announced the launch of a new interventional X-ray system that aims to combine the advantages of floor and ceiling-mounted systems.

The Discovery IGS 730 device is being unveiled at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2011 conference this week and offers full mobility and patient access, without the need to suspend the system above the patient.

It provides laser-guided motion technology on a motorised mobile gantry, Wide Bore 3D technology for ease of 3D acquisitions and more than 20 advanced applications.

GE Healthcare believes that the mobility and flexibility of the new system makes it an advance that is comparable to the invention of flat panels, allowing users to enjoy the benefits of all current system types with none of the disadvantages.

Chantal Le Chat, general manager of GE Healthcare's interventional radiology unit, said: "With Discovery IGS 730, doctors will be able to rediscover space and movement while accessing all the advanced imaging capabilities of GE premium interventional systems."

Also at RSNA 2011, the company announced that it will be investing an additional $300 million (192.8 million pounds) into low-dose technology offerings for the healthcare sector.
