Biotronik launches first MRI-compatible implantable defibrillator
Biotronik has announced the introduction of its groundbreaking new Lumax 740 implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs) in Europe.
The CE-marked products, which are the first devices of their kind to be eligible for use with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), have been successfully implanted for the first time among patients in several EU nations.
Using ProMRI technology, extended longevity benefits and compatibility with Biotronik Home Monitoring, the new offering is designed to address the high probability that ICD patients will need to receive MRI scans at some point in their lifetimes.
It also features an integrated intracardiac impedance assessment technology that aims to enhance therapy for heart failure patients and is currently being assessed in clinical studies.
Dr Werner Braun, managing director of Biotronik, said: "We have taken a number one leadership position in innovation, with the industry's broadest portfolio of implantable cardiac devices that are eligible for use with MRI."
Last week, the company published a new study showing the benefits of PRO-Kinetic Energy stent system in the treatment of cardiovascular conditions.
