Actavis provides medical supplies donation to Libya
Actavis has provided a donation of medication to Libya to help address the shortage of healthcare supplies in the African nation.
The pharmacy supplier has contributed 170 pallets of urgent medicines worth two million euros (1.71 million pounds), including cardiology, anti-infective, pain management and gastrointestinal products.
They will be delivered via the company's regional office in Malta to the medical supply organisation within Libya's ministry of health, allowing them to be distributed across the entire country.
Claudio Albrecht, chief executive officer of Actavis, thanked the Maltese government for its role in helping to coordinate the donation, which has helped the company to deliver the goods as quickly as possible.
"We know Libya is faced with shortages of essential supplies. Actavis is one of the world's largest generic pharmaceutical companies and takes its social responsibility very seriously," he said.
Last month, the company highlighted the success of the Youth in Europe drug prevention programme, a scheme initiated by the government of Iceland that Actavis is sponsoring.
