Leica Microsystems to purchase Labindia business units
Leica Microsystems has announced the acquisition of the microscopy and histopathology business of Labindia Instruments.
The agreement will involve the transfer of 130 associates from Labindia and will help Leica to further its global expansion plans, while building on a long relationship between the two companies.
Leica has been working with the Indian company since the 1980s, when Labindia provided services for Reichert Jung, which has subsequently become part of Leica.
According to Arnd Kaldowski, president of Leica Microsystems, the takeover will provide expanded opportunities for staff from the two organisations to collaborate and innovate.
He added: "This acquisition will enable closer contact with our customers so that we can better support them in their day-to-day work."
Earlier this month, the company agreed a new alliance with the Max Planck Society and the German Cancer Research Center over the development of next-generation microscopy technology.
