Hologic reports positive data from long-term MammoSite study

6th October 2011

Hologic has published positive new data from a six-year follow-up study assessing its MammoSite multi-lumen radiation therapy system.

The company has conducted a trial known as the MammoSite Registry Study, results from which were presented at the American Society of Radiation Oncology meeting in Miami earlier this month.

Data from more than 1,400 patients showed that 90.4 percent of subjects were able to experience excellent or good cosmetic results following therapy, with no deterioration in the quality of treatment during this period.

MammoSite allows targeted radiation to be delivered directly to the area where cancer is most likely to take hold, allowing a full course of radiation to be delivered in just five days, while limiting damage to healthy tissue.

Carter Houghton, vice-president and general manager of Hologic's interventional breast solutions business, said: "The MammoSite Registry data provides further evidence supporting the use of MammoSite in early-stage breast cancer patients."

Last month, the company showcased its new ThinPrep 5000 sample transfer system and Cervista medium throughput automation device at an industry conference.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800750896-ADNFCR
