Simplyhealth raises concerns over drop in children’s dental visits

1st September 2011

Simplyhealth has raised concerns over the falling frequency with which UK children are getting dental check-ups.

Figures from the NHS Information Centre have revealed that over the last five years there has been a decline in the number of children seeing NHS dentists, despite a rise in adult visits during the same period.

The dental plan provider said it is essential that youngsters are taken for regular check-ups from an early age in order to maintain good oral health.

Abby Bowman from Simplyhealth said: "Children should be taken to the dentist as soon as their first teeth appear, yet … almost half of parents in the UK are taking their children for their first dental visit too late."

The company also noted that its Simply Dental Plan and Simply Cash Plan offerings are designed to help parents manage the costs of routine dental visits.

Last month, Simplyhealth announced that it will be expanding its operations with the acquisition of the UK healthcare business of Groupama Insurances.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800716701-ADNFCR
