Dechra launches new veterinary haemostat

31st August 2011

Dechra Veterinary Products has announced the launch of a new haemostat product for animals with a range of different applications.

Celox Veterinary is being made available in both a granule formulation and in two sizes of gauze, and can help to prevent bleeding among subjects affected by conditions such as haemorrhaging, field trauma and dental or arterial bleeding.

It functions by bonding with red blood cells and gelling with fluids to produce a robust clot, thus allowing bleeding to be stemmed within three minutes of administration, independent of normal clotting processes.

Because it is made of the natural polysaccharide chitosan, it generates no heat when in use, while any small amounts of residual material left in the body can be naturally metabolised.

Rachel Horton, Dechra product manager, said: "Wound care is an area in which Dechra is known for its innovative product range."

This comes after the company announced the launch of Rycarfa, a new anti-inflammation range for domestic animals, earlier this month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800714856-ADNFCR
