Siemens launches new liver fibrosis test for Advia Centaur

30th August 2011

Siemens has introduced a new testing system for its Advia Centaur platform that allows clinicians to perform quick, reliable checks for liver fibrosis.

The Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) test from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics is a standardised routine blood test that functions by combining three direct serum biomarkers into an algorithm.

By analysing data on hyaluronic acid, procollagen III amino terminal peptide and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1, an ELF score can be calculated that correlates to the level of liver fibrosis assessed by liver biopsy.

This offers benefits due to the fact that only a routine fasted serum sample is required for analysis, meaning it can easily be requested without the need for any patient demographic information.

"Siemens Healthcare continues to build on our integrated portfolio of diagnostic solutions for managing liver health, which includes routine hepatitis blood tests, viral load testing, and ultrasound systems," the company said.

This comes after the company was granted CE Mark approval for a new syphilis assay for the Advia Centaur system earlier this month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800713586-ADNFCR
