BMG Labtech awards SPECTROstar Nano to US scientist

4th August 2011

BMG Labtech has awarded a SPECTROstar Nano to a scientist at Duke University Medical School in the US.

Dr Michael Campa is planning to use the microplate reader to investigate the manner in which some cancer patients produce an immune response to fight the disease.

Along with his co-workers, he will explore a mechanism that may help to prevent lung cancer from spreading by utilising an anti-complement factor H autoantibody taken from sufferers whose cancers have not metastasised.

By purifying and characterising the antibody, the researchers hope to identify the role it plays in lung cancer metastasis.

Commenting on the award of the SPECTOstar Nano, Dr Campa said: "It is indeed a very generous gift and comes at an ideal time. Our ageing plate reader has been locking up recently and most likely won't last much longer."

Other winners of the BMG Labtech competition include Dr Marco G Casteleijn from the University of Helsinki.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800690255-ADNFCR
