Quintiles appoints new chief medical officer

Quintiles has announced the appointment of Jeffrey Spaeder as the firm's chief medical and scientific officer.

Dr Spaeder, who previously worked as executive director of global medical affairs at Takeda, is set to become the leading medical expert at the biopharmaceutical services company and provide guidance on the ethical conduct of studies.

Derek Winstanly, chief customer and governance officer, said the new recruit will be "the public face and voice of Quintiles, acting as an industry thought leader".

He added: "We are delighted to have a physician and cardiologist of Jeff Spaeder's stature join Quintiles."

Dr Spaeder, a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, previously served as director of alliance management at Abbott Laboratories.

During his time there, he managed clinical oncology research with a biotechnology partner.

The appointment comes shortly after Quintiles announced the official opening of its new clinical research facility within Queen Mary, University of London.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800678092-ADNFCR
