Tesco seeking to expand UK pharmacy services provision
Tesco has revealed that it wishes to introduce more pharmacy outlets across the UK in order to meet growing demand for these services.
Superintendent Adrian Price told Chemist and Druggist that the retail chain wishes to open a pharmacy in every superstore if possible, due to the fact that this has become its most requested service.
He stated that branches will be looking to introduce a control-of-entry system that reflects where people shop and what consumers want in terms of convenience, adding that the reach of the company's pharmacy services can be "tremendous".
Mr Price noted that customers often visit their local supermarkets on a weekly basis, a level of routine interaction that its pharmacy offering can capitalise upon.
"That gives tremendous opportunity to engage with the government's health agenda and I think that complements what goes on in community really, really well," he explained.
Last year, the chain introduced a free erectile dysfunction service via its pharmacies, becoming the first supermarket retailer to sell Pfizer's Viagra over the counter.
