Thermo Fisher Scientific has expanded its board of directors with the appointment of Lars Rebien Sorensen.
The life science company has appointed the president and chief executive officer of diabetes-focused healthcare company Novo Nordisk as the 12th member of its board.
Mr Sorenson joined Novo Nordisk in 1982 and has led the company since November 2000, while he also holds board positions at companies including Bertelsmann and Dong Energy.
Jim Manzi, chairman of the board of Thermo Fisher Scientific, stated that Mr Sorenson's leadership at Novo Nordisk has helped the company to become an "international success story".
"His experience leading a global company in the healthcare space will be invaluable as Thermo Fisher continues to strategically expand its footprint worldwide," he added.
Last month, the firm announced that it has been able to identify the protein toxins associated with the E. coli outbreak in Europe following joint research with the Health Protection Agency.
