Lilly reports positive data from Axiron trial

30th June 2011

Lilly has highlighted positive data from a clinical study of its drug Axiron, a treatment for adult males with low or no testosterone.

The topical solution was trialled in a phase III open-label study to evaluate its safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy when applied daily to the underarm area.

It was found that the treatment was able to meet its primary endpoint of restoring testosterone levels to within normal parameters, as well as achieving its secondary goal of improving symptoms associated with the condition.

Further data from the study showed that the efficacy of Axiron is not affected by washing the application area or utilising underarm deodorants and antiperspirants.

The manufacturer said: "The study authors concluded that Axiron … provides a treatment option that is efficacious and generally well-tolerated."

Earlier this week, Lilly announced that it will be making a new investment in expanding its biotechnology capabilities, in order to conduct new multi-specific therapeutics research.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800604593-ADNFCR
