Boston Scientific launches new Mustang PTA balloon catheter
Boston Scientific has launched a new balloon catheter for use in percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) worldwide.
Available now in the US, Europe and other international markets, the Mustang device is a highly deliverable 0.035-inch unit that has been designed in response to demand for a low-profile, high-pressure balloon catheter in a range of sizes.
It utilises Boston Scientific's NyBax Balloon Material to provide high-pressure, non-compliant dilatation, excellent rated burst pressure and compatibility with a 5 French introducer sheath.
The manufacturer states that the Mustang device, which is available in 203 size variants, will be applicable to a variety of lesions of different complexities.
Joe Fitzgerald, senior vice-president and president of Boston Scientific's endovascular unit, said: "Its versatility and extensive size matrix allow physicians to address nearly every peripheral need, ranging from treating blockages in femoral arteries to dialysis fistulae."
This follows on from the launch of its Energen and Punctua cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillators and implantable cardioverter defibrillators in Europe last month.
