GlaxoSmithKline and Arecor announce vaccine alliance

17th June 2011

GlaxoSmithKline has entered into a new alliance with Arecor focusing on the development of advanced formulations of vaccines.

The partnership will utilise GlaxoSmithKline's proprietary vaccine compounds and Arecor's unique formulation technologies, with the latter company to receive payments based on specified developmental and commercial milestones.

A number of new approaches have been jointly developed by the two companies that could potentially offer major improvements in the administration of developmental vaccines.

Tom Saylor, chief executive officer of Arecor, said: "The relationship with GlaxoSmithKline offers Arecor the potential to apply its broad-ranging expertise in biomolecule stabilisation to specific projects."

Last month, GlaxoSmithKline announced that it is also entering into partnership with AstraZeneca and the University of Manchester to create a centre for inflammatory disease research in the UK.

Named the Manchester Collaborative Centre for Inflammation Research, the site will combine the expertise of all three partners and will open later this year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800582648-ADNFCR
