Pfizer and Amgen publish positive Enbrel trial data

26th May 2011

Pfizer and Amgen have highlighted data from a number of clinical trials of Enbrel that support the effectiveness of the drug in treating chronic inflammatory conditions.

The companies are giving presentations at the European League Against Rheumatism and World Congress of Dermatology conferences this week, offering details on the performance of the treatment in four different indications.

Interim results from a trial called Preserve are being showcased that illustrate Enbrel's benefits in treating moderately active rheumatoid arthritis, while data from separate trials have demonstrated its efficacy in combating ankylosing spondylitis symptoms.

Further study results will also be showcased to exemplify the treatment's effectiveness against psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis.

Yvonne Greenstreet, senior vice-president and head of medicines development for Pfizer's specialty care business, said: "Enbrel has 2.5 million patient years of collective clinical experience and we continue to gain important knowledge about these conditions and the potential benefits of treating patients with certain chronic inflammatory diseases."

This comes after Pfizer published trial data on its developmental rheumatoid arthritis treatment tofacitinib earlier this week, demonstrating its efficacy among patients who have not responded to other drugs.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800557668-ADNFCR
