Medtronic launches Contour 3D heart valve repair ring
Medtronic has announced the global launch of a new heart valve repair ring designed for sufferers of tricuspid valve disease.
The new Contour 3D Annuloplasty Ring has been approved for use in the US, Europe and other territories and works by remodelling the natural valve's shape and size to restore function.
It utilises the company's Profile 3D technology and has been optimised to prevent interference with the heart's conduction system, minimise the risk of regurgitation and maintain valve leaflet functionality.
The launch of the new product has been enabled by Medtronic's recent acquisition of the healthcare device manufacturer ATS Medical.
Shawn Monaghan, vice-president of surgical-based therapies for Medtronic's structural heart business, said: "Medtronic's tricuspid valve repair product line is now the most complete portfolio available for cardiac surgeons."
Last week, the firm released the Achieve Mapping Catheter in Europe, an intra-cardiac electrophysiology recording catheter for treating paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
