Eusa Pharma study shows efficacy of Caphosol

7th January 2011

Eusa Pharma has highlighted data from a new study which demonstrates the efficacy of its mouth rinse product Caphosol in combating oral mucositis.

Data presented at the American Society of Haematology Conference last month suggested that the supersaturated calcium and phosphate rinse can help to decrease the severity and duration of the condition, while also minimising peak pain levels.

These conclusions were based on a prospective randomised controlled study involving 40 allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients, of whom 20 received Caphosol and the remainder a standard topical oral care treatment.

It was also shown that none of the patients using Caphosol required total parenteral nutrition (TPN), compared to 30 percent of those in the control group.

Miroslaw Markiewicz of the Medical University of Silesia's department of haematology said: "In consequence, comfort of life is improved … and the requirement of TPN and analgesics is reduced."

This week, Eusa Pharma also announced that its drug Erwinase has been granted priority review status by healthcare regulators in the US ahead of its planned launch in the territory.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800328789-ADNFCR
