Cook Medical to launch new endovascular repair system
Cook Medical has received approval to launch a new medical device system in Europe which allows type B aortic dissections to be treated in a minimally invasive way.
The Zenith Dissection Endovascular System uses three Cook Medical devices – the Zenith Dissection bare metal stent, the Zenith TX2 TAA Endovascular Graft with Pro-Form and the Z-Trak Plus Introduction System – in conjunction.
It allows small tears to the aorta to be repaired using a "seal-and-stent" approach, encouraging false lumen stasis, thrombosis and branch vessel reperfusion, as well as avoiding the need for traumatic open repair surgery.
The system will be introduced in various medical centres around Europe in the coming months.
Phil Nowell, global leader of Cook Medical's aortic intervention division, said: "By developing a product specifically for the treatment of aortic dissection, we aim to improve the clinical outcomes for patients suffering from this condition."
Earlier this month, the company expanded its range of Spectrum Turbo-Ject antibiotic-impregnated catheters with a variety of products in new sizes and specifications.
