ResMed S9 CPAP device aids sleep therapy, shows study
ResMed has published the results of a new study which illustrates the positive effect its S9 Series continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device offers among sleep therapy patients.
The company has completed a clinical trial involving 50 obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) sufferers, showing patient compliance with sleep therapy increases when using the device.
OSA is a condition characterised by the collapse or obstruction of the airway during sleep, with CPAP therapy counteracting this via an air pressure-regulating mask.
ResMed's trial showed the S9 series is able to counteract the traditional disadvantages of such systems, including breathing discomfort and noisy operation, allowing patients to get 30 minutes more sleep on average.
Frank Klein, vice-president of ResMed's European sleep business unit, said: "We are extremely pleased to see patient tests confirm that the S9 Series increases patients' compliance and quality of life, making the device a true revolution in positive airway pressure therapy."
Last month, the company published its report for the fiscal year ending on June 30th 2010, during which it experienced its best ever revenue and income performance.
