| Government 'must raise awareness of breast cancer risk factors' | Posted on 03/09/2010 in Medical Government/ NHS related news The government has been called upon to do more to raise awareness of breast cancer risk factors in order to ensure UK patients are educated about how to avoid the disease.
Arlene Wilkie, director of research and policy at research charity Breast Cancer Campaign, urged the government to prioritise the promotion of healthy lifestyles as it looks to review its national cancer strategy.
The call comes after a report from the World Cancer Research Fund suggested that 5,500 UK breast cancer cases could be prevented if people were engaged in more forms of moderate activity, such as brisk walking.
It also stated that this can help to lessen susceptibility of endometrial cancer and being overweight, which is another general cancer risk factor.
Ms Wilkie therefore called for the government to promote this information in order to reflect the "increasing knowledge we have in this area".
"There is growing evidence that leading a healthy lifestyle, including being physically active and maintaining a healthy body weight, is really important for our wellbeing," she explained. Other news stories from 03/09/2010
