| BDA urges pragmatism following dental register error concerns | Posted on 13/08/2010 in Dental / Dental Practitioner News The British Dental Association (BDA) has warned the Scottish government against penalising dentists following reports of errors in funding calculations.
Robert Kinloch, chairman of the BDA's Scottish dental practice committee, has called for a "pragmatic approach" after it transpired that as many as 150,000 names on the nation's dental register are duplicated or deceased.
An investigation is currently being conducted into the issue, which could mean that many surgeries have been allocated more funding than they were entitled to.
Mr Kinloch said the BDA has been questioning the accuracy of the dental register for some time, but stated that the mistake is the government's responsibility, with much of the money having already been invested into surgeries across the country.
He added: "The fault does not lie with dentists and clawing back of monies already paid could adversely affect the care of the patients who remain with surgeries."
This comes after the BDA was able to convince the government to reconsider its policies on calculating the Doctors and Dentists Review Body pay award scheme earlier this month. Other news stories from 13/08/2010
