Inverness Medical Innovations completes rebranding to Alere
21 July 2010 00:00 in Scientific
Inverness Medical Innovations has announced that it has enacted its plans to change the name of the company to Alere.
The firm originally announced the rebranding in May 2010 and has now made the change following approval from shareholders at the business' annual meeting on July 14th 2010.
This move will also see the company's New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol be amended from IMA to ALR, an adjustment which comes into effect this week.
Explaining its decision following the initial announcement, Inverness Medical Innovations chief executive officer Ron Zwanziger said the move will help to create a globally-recognised brand identity.
The Alere name, which comes from the Latin word meaning "to nurture, care for or support", has been utilised by the business' health management services offering for some time.
Mr Zwanziger said: "The new name is appropriate for a company that sees its foremost task as the continuous improvement of patient care."
