Posted on 07/07/2010 in Scientific Hologic has agreed to acquire the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology provider Sentinelle Medical in a deal worth $85 million (56.2 million pounds).
The women's health specialist expects that the deal will be closed in the third quarter of the calendar year, depending on regulatory and shareholder approval, and will provide Hologic with a number of benefits.
Among these is the acquisition of Sentinelle's portfolio of MRI breast coil technology, which Hologic hopes to expand across other anatomy-specific applications, as well as its tables and visualisation software.
In addition, Hologic also expects the takeover to augment its research and development capabilities, which could lead to the development of new advances in breast imaging.
Rob Cascella, president and chief executive officer of Hologic, said: "The agreement to acquire Sentinelle Medical is a further example of our strategy to maintain a leadership position in women's healthcare."
Last month, Hologic was given accreditation from the European Reference Organization for Hologic Selenia, its new digital mammography system, becoming the first product of its kind to receive this certification.Other news stories from 07/07/2010
