Posted on 25/06/2010 in Scientific Grifols has agreed a deal with Spanish biotechnology company Progenika Biopharma which will see it acquire global marketing rights to a new molecular biology product range.
The deal centres on Progenika's Bloodchip test range, a CE Mark-accredited genotyping test which allows donor blood to be analysed in cases where conventional serological tests are insufficient.
Grifols will be able to distribute the product in the more than 90 countries in which it is active, ensuring global exposure for the Bloodchip device and generating predicted revenues between 50 and 100 million euros (41.2 and 82.4 million pounds) within five years.
Victor Grifols, president and chief executive officer of Grifols said: "This agreement will allow us to strengthen our diagnostic division and consolidate our global position in the field of blood grouping with a new innovative tool that increases transfusion safety."
Earlier this month, the firm held its annual general meeting, during which Mr Grifols expressed confidence in its future growth prospects following a strong 2009 performance.Other news stories from 25/06/2010
