PerkinElmer introduces 3D image analysis technology

PerkinElmer has augmented its Columbus 2.1 and Volocity 5.3.2 imaging software suites with the addition of 3D imaging functionality.
The new update to the systems is designed to make them more useful in high content screening applications for drug discovery and biological research by providing clearer and easier means of analysis.
PerkinElmer states that the new 3D capabilities will allow scientists to observe cells and their interactions with treatments and disease compounds more accurately.
In addition, the new software is also optimised to be easy to use, allowing high content screening experiments to be dragged and dropped from Columbus into Volocity for 3D analysis.
The firm states that this will aid life scientists who are "looking for solutions that allow them to manage and then analyse the increasing volume of image data that they are generating".
Last month, PerkinElmer published its financial results for the first quarter of 2010, expressing satisfaction after experiencing a seven per cent year-on-year revenue growth.
