Covidien launches suturing device for laparoscopic surgery
Covidien has released a new articulating suturing device for advanced laparoscopic surgery, which allows surgeons to conducted procedures in a more controlled and precise way.
The SILS Stitch instrument offers features such as 75-degree articulation, 360-degree tip rotation and added length and is optimised for use in a variety of minimally invasive applications.
Covidien states that its mobile nature provides surgeons with “maximum control and unparalleled access”, which makes it ideal for challenging gynaecological procedures such as laparoscopic hysterectomies.
Dr Dana Portenier, assistant professor of surgery at the Duke University Medical Center, endorsed Covidien’s device, stating that it will help to medical professionals to overcome the limitation normally associated with these techniques.
She added: “The SILS Stitch device will enable us to attack the tissues where they lie, rather than pull them to the places that are convenient for us.”
Last month, Covidien published its financial report for the most recent fiscal quarter, reporting an 11 per cent year-on-year increase in medical device sales.
