Boehringer Ingelheim publishes trial data for HSDD drug
Boehringer Ingelheim has published new clinical trial data which demonstrates the potential benefits of flibanserin, its treatment for female hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).
The company has conducted a phase III study among more than 1,300 pre-menopausal women to establish the effectiveness of a flibanserin 100 mg therapy compared to placebo.
It was found that those trialled using Boehringer Ingelheim’s drug experienced positive effects such as increased sexual desire, a higher number of satisfying sexual events and a reduction in HSDD-related distress.
In addition, more than half of the participants questioned reported being aware of feeling health improvements when taking flibanserin.
John Thorp, study investigator and professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of North Carolina Medical School, said: “We know that flibanserin is effective and well-tolerated in a clinical setting, but it’s important to understand too whether patients themselves see a benefit from treatment.”
Earlier this month, the company published trial data on its laxative treatment Dulcolax, which reinforced its effectiveness among constipation sufferers.
