Posted on 14/05/2010 in Scientific Hologic has announced the launch of a new endometrial ablation system for the treatment of women suffering from excessive menstrual bleeding.
The newest incarnation of the NovaSure system is a minimally-invasive outpatient treatment which applies a 90-second dose of radio-frequency energy to remove the lining of the uterus.
It requires no hormonal pre-treatment and is designed to be customisable to the specific needs of each patient, as the treatment can be performed at any point during the menstrual cycle.
Steve Williamson, senior vice-president and general manager at Hologic GYN Surgical Products, stated that the improvements to the new version of the system have been made following consultation with patients and physicians.
He added: "We believe the new NovaSure enhancements will expand the number of women who are offered the NovaSure procedure as a solution for excessive menstrual bleeding."
This week, Hologic also launched Adiana, a permanent contraception system which is being offered as a minimally-invasive alternative to surgery.Other news stories from 14/05/2010
