| Anachem launches new DNA stain | Posted on 12/05/2010 in Scientific Anachem has released a new DNA stain which offers a number of advantages for life scientists detecting nucleic acid in agarose gels.
The science company's new Midori Green DNA Stain works by binding to DNA or RNA and emits green fluorescence when reaching its excitation peak, centred around 500nm.
It is designed to be compatible with a variety of gel reading instruments, as it also features two secondary excitation peaks of approximately 300nm and 400nm.
Anachem states that Midori Green can be used for agarose gel electrophoresis in the same way as ethidium bromide stain, as its delivers the same level of sensitivity.
However, Anachem's stain causes "significantly fewer mutations" than ethidium bromide according to Ames test data, while it is also designed to be non-carcinogenic.
Last month, Anachem announced the launch of Kapa Express Extract, a thermostable protease and buffer system which allows DNA samples to be extracted in around 15 minutes.Other news stories from 12/05/2010
