Millipore hails progress during first quarter

10th May 2010

Millipore has hailed an “exceptional” first quarter of 2010 after achieving progress towards a number of key business objectives in the last three months.

According to its latest financial report, the life science company’s revenues for the period came to a total of $463 million (308.9 million pounds), a 14 per cent increase on the corresponding quarter of last year.

The firm said this was due in part to strong demand for its bioprocess offerings from biotechnology sector clients, while the bioscience division also saw increased spending from the pharmaceutical industry.

In addition, Millipore also made progress in the organisation of its takeover by Merck KGaA, a deal which will see the firm gain what it describes as a “world-class partner”.

Martin Madaus, chairman and chief executive officer of Millipore, added: “We continue to accelerate our investments into initiatives that will drive product innovation.”

Last month, the company launched its new Mobius Flexible Filtration system, which is designed to allow biopharmaceutical manufacturers improve the speed and efficiency of their processes.
